CNDH DELEGATION TO VISIT KHOURIBGA TO INVESTIGATE NATURE AND IMPACT OF EVENTS AND HOW PUBLIC FORCES HANDLED THE SITUATION

The delegation is chaired by the Secretary General of the Council

Following the events the city of Khouribga (120 Km South-east of Casablanca) witnessed on 15 March 2011, a delegation from the National Human Rights Council (CNDH), chaired by Secretary General Mohammed Sebbar, will visit the city to investigate the nature and impact of the events and the way public authorities handled the situation.

Article 4 of CNDH creating law stipulates that the Council monitors human rights violations in all regions, across the Kingdom and that it may conduct investigations and inquiries whenever it obtains confirmed and reliable information that such violations have occurred, irrespective of their nature or origin.

According to article 9 of its creating law, the Council may intervene, on an urgent basis, whenever there is a source of tension, to prevent any possible violation of individual or collective rights. It can use all means for mediation and conciliation it deems appropriate in order to prevent the said violations.

The Council’s delegation will collect information about the said events. It will hold several meetings with public authorities, union associations and a number of victims and their families.
