CCDH STARTS A NEW DYNAMIC TO INVOLVE ARTISTS AND SCHOLARS IN THE PROMOTION OF HUMAN RIGHTS CULTURE

In line with its efforts to promote human rights culture, mainly through the implementation of the citizenship platform for the promotion of human rights culture, the Advisory Council on Human Rights (CCDH) started a new dynamic and involved artists and scholars in the promotion of human rights culture.

Within this framework, the Council and Moroccan Coalition of Culture and Arts (CMCA) held a national event devoted to the participation and involvement of creators and artists in the promotion of human rights culture, on October 13-14, 2010, in Rabat.

Organized on the theme of “a creative dynamics for an active citizenship”, this meeting was marked by the presentation of a draft charter on the commitment and involvement of artists in the promotion of human rights culture. The Council signed during this meeting two partnership agreements with the Coalition and the Rabita Mohammedia des Oulémas (Mohammadia League of Scholars).

The agreement concluded by the Council and the Coalition provides a framework for artists and creators to participate in the promotion of human rights culture through artistic events, festivals, concerts and shows. It aims to make them aware of the important role they can play to promote human rights culture.

By virtue of this agreement, the Coalition shall be committed to organize special artistic events and an annual rendezvous for Moroccan creativity and assign goodwill ambassadors to promote human rights principles and values.

In addition to the promotion of human rights culture, the agreement concluded with Mohammadia League of Scholars aims to make scholars aware of the vital role they can play to promote human rights culture. By virtue of this agreement, the League will organize special events and assign goodwill ambassadors to promote human rights principles and values.

The Council, on the other hand, will organize, by virtue of these agreements, training sessions on human rights for the staff of the Coalition and its committees, creators and artists and Rabita scholars. It will provide human rights documents and encourage initiatives and activities taken by the Coalition or the League to promote human rights culture.

In addition, a draft charter to promote human rights culture was presented. It aims at the mobilization of all governmental and non-governmental stakeholders to coordinate and strengthen efforts to promote human rights culture.

Al Ouajba” (duty), a song written and sung by Mohamed Dirham, CMCA President for the event, and a short film shot as testimonies of creators, artists and human rights militants mobilized for this cause will be displayed.

An artistic evening party was organized in Mohamed V National Theatre on October 14, 2010. Famous national artists participated in this event to prove their commitment to the promotion of human rights culture.
