Tribute to Halima Warzazi: 50 Years in the Service of Human Rights

The Advisory Council on Human Rights (CCDH) organized a ceremony to pay tribute to Ms. Halima Embarek Warzazi for her commitment to human rights and work within the United Nations for over fifty years, on 29 May 2009.

Several dignitaries attended the ceremony, including CCDH members, human rights activists and other friends of Ms. Warzazi.

Ms. Warzazi, who has been a CCDH member since December 2002, was among the first Moroccan women to exercise diplomatic posts. Ms. Latifa Akherbach, Secretary of State to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, said that she was a woman with an exceptional career, full of accomplishments and achievements... a woman who incorporated trust, great respect and consideration, which allowed her to contribute effectively and decisively to the development of the concept of 'Universality of Human Rights' in their legal and cultural dimensions and to participate in the development of key international conventions.

Speaking on this occasion, the CCDH President, Mr. Ahmed Herzenni, said that Ms. Warzazi, who is a pride for Morocco, deserved this tribute, adding that she had accomplished various tasks at the UN, even when major democracies had no representatives at the UN.

He stressed that she was a very effective diplomat, combining the strengths of personality, firmness, power to convince and elegance, adding that her patriotic spirit had made her a fervent defender of national causes.

Ms. Warzazi expressed her gratitude and appreciation to the CCDH President for this tribute, adding that it was one of the highlights of her life. "I am extremely excited" to be the subject of an event as exciting as this, "after 50 years working in the field of human rights and defense of national causes".

Ms. Warzazi delivered a speech on this occasion demonstrating the richness of her career and reflecting an exemplary Moroccan career.
