Training Session in Sidi Kacem

As part of its mission of promoting the human rights culture, in partnership with the Moroccan Organization for Human Rights (OMDH) and with the participation of the Ministry of Justice, the Advisory Council on Human Rights (CCDH) organized a training session on November 1-2, 2008 in Sidi Kacem under the theme of "International Conventions and Instruments on Human Rights". This session saw the participation of about thirty activists belonging to twelve local associations operating in various areas: development, environment, culture, etc.

The objective of this session was to strengthen the institutional capacity of local associations, through the presentation and explanation of the international human rights system, its covenants, conventions and instruments.

The material used during this session was prepared at the CCDH Center for Documentation, Information and Training in Human Rights. It is a pack containing the basic texts (in Arabic):

- The Universal Declaration of Human Rights;
- The International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights;
- The International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights;
- The Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment;
- The Convention on the Rights of the Child;
- The International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination;
- The Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women;
- The International Convention on the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families.

In addition to its educational goals, the training session aimed specifically to highlight the possibilities of collaboration and partnership between the three major stakeholders involved in the defense and promotion of human rights in Morocco: civil society, government and the national human rights institution: the CCDH. It is also the first initiative that should be held again on a regular basis in other towns and cities.
