First Meeting of Technical Committee for Study on "The Right to Development in Morocco"

The Technical Committee in charge of supporting the study on “the right to development in Morocco: between the Millennium Development Goals and the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights”, which falls under a partnership agreement between UNDP-Morocco and CCDH, held its first meeting on May 27, 2009 at the headquarters of the Advisory Council on Human Rights (CCDH).

It should be noted that the main objectives of this study are to promote the integration of the human right approach in the public processes of decision and action, to demonstrate that human development and human rights form an inseparable unit and to initiate a debate on the possibilities of developing a trend chart where indicators of human developments and those of human rights can be integrated in a complementary manner.

The conduct of the study is entrusted to a drafting committee composed of four national experts. Its steering is ensured by a CCDH / UNDP unit.

This first meeting was attended by government department responsible for the sectors of education, employment, health, housing and social development, as well as representatives from the National Observatory for Human Development and the United Nations agencies represented in Morocco who are directly involved in these sectors.

At the end of this first meeting, it was agreed that the Drafting Committee will finalize the methodological note in the light of comments and suggestions which have been formulated by various stakeholders, and submit them to the members of the Technical Committee.
