CNDH stresses the necessity to integrate young people as key actors to participate in building democracy and Human Rights

As part of the 48th session of the Human Rights Council held in Geneva from 13 September to 8 October 2021, the National Human Rights Council (CNDH) participated on Wednesday 29 September 2021, in a High-level panel discussion on the tenth anniversary of the United Nations Declaration on Human Rights Education and Training, good practices, challenges and way forward.

The CNDH was represented by Mr. Abdelhafid Edmino, CNDH member and Coordinator of the Standing Committee on Evaluating and Monitoring the effectiveness of Human rights in Public Policies and the Harmonization of Legislation.

The CNDH stressed the necessity of integrating young people as key actors to participate in building democracy and human rights. Their role should not be limited to being beneficiaries of education and training. Areas of their participation should be expanded at national and international levels.

Mr. Admino indicated that the CNDH organizes training and educational programs for young people, either through its mechanisms, including the Rabat Institute for Human Rights-Driss Benzekri or by supporting their initiatives in the framework of partnerships with various national and international actors.

He also added that the CNDH ensured that its various Regional Commissions integrated young people as members. Moreover, the CNDH organized several training sessions for young people, including the one on Human Rights Education and Combating Violent Extremism.

The CNDH shed light on its contribution to raising the involvement of young people in public affairs. It integrated them in the process of election observation organized this September and provided them training. The CNDH also monitors their political participation, particularly at the level of candidates. The CNDH supported civil society NGOs that observed the elections and published reports taking into account the participation of young people.

Furthermore, the CNDH underlined the online and offline campaigns which were launched to promote the right of persons with disabilities to political participation, including young people, and abolishing the marriage of minors. Besides, the CNDH also organized meetings in all regions of Morocco on the process of implementing the principle of parity, taking into account young people.
