Announcement ceremony for the new members of the Regional Human Rights Commission of Marrakech-Safi Region

Ms. Amina Bouayach, President of the National Human Rights Council (CNDH) emphasized the key role played by the regional human rights commissions (CRDHs) as a mechanism of proximity to interact directly with citizens. This role requires accuracy in dealing with issues at the regional level and interacting with all relevant institutional and civil actors, as they are essential partners to meet the CNDH missions, she added.

She said, in her statement at the announcement ceremony for the new members of the Regional Human Rights Commission of Marrakech-Safi region held on Thursday, October 22, 2020, in Marrakesh, Morocco, that the complementarity between the CNDH, its General Assembly, and the CRDHs provides the power to the CNDH to address major issues. The national reflection conducted by the General Assembly cannot be fully understood without achieving interaction, through the CRDHs, with all the relevant institutions and actors regionally.

The CNDH Chairperson concluded her statement by highlighting the importance of establishing the Permanent Committee on monitoring and assessing public policies at the CRDHs in addition to permanent committees on protection and promotion of human rights. This permanent committee will follow up on public policies and their responsiveness to citizens’ claims and expectations by regionally monitoring social, economic and environmental issues, etc.

The CRDH is composed of 21 members proposed by the regional representative of judges, lawyers, education, the Higher Ulema Council, doctors, professional journalists, and civil society, in addition to several activists working on protecting and promoting human rights.
