A GROUP OF CAUCASIAN JOURNALISTS VISITS CCDH TO BE INFORMED ABOUT MOROCCAN ACHIEVEMENTS IN THE FIELD OF HUMAN RIGHTS

A group of Caucasian Journalists visited the Advisory Council on Human Rights (CCDH) to have an idea on the Moroccan achievements in the field of human rights and the implementation process of the Equity and Reconciliation Commission’s recommendations, on 27 October 2010.

This visit aimed to improve these journalists’ understanding of the Moroccan-European relations, in line with the European Neighbourhood Policy and the advanced status, granted by the EU to Morocco. It was organized within the framework of the European Neighbourhood Policy’s information programs, through which the European Commission organizes visits for journalists to EU partner countries to give them an idea about the actions of the Union at the exterior level. Within this context, Morocco was chosen to receive a group of Caucasian journalists from 25 to 29 October 2010.

On behalf of the President of the Council, Mr. Abderrazak Rowane, Head of the Cooperation and Foreign Affairs Department, met the group, made of 28 journalists, and presented the work of the Council and its missions, prerogatives, context of creation and its participation in the settlement of the past grave human rights violations.

Mr. Rowane briefed the group on the experience of the Independent Arbitration Commission and the Equity and Reconciliation Commission and underlined their role in the settlement of the past human rights violations. In addition, he shed light on the efforts made by the Council to protect human rights and promote human rights culture. In this regards, he stressed the importance of the Citizenship Platform of the promotion of human rights culture, the National Plan of Action on Democracy and Human Rights, the Community Reparation Program and the Program of History, Archive and Memory.

“The Council has started working on the promotion of economic, social, cultural and environmental rights”, Mr. Rowane said, adding that it is working on the promotion of the rights that have a priority now in Morocco, to wit: the right to housing, the right to work, the right to health and the right to education.
