CNDH receives a delegation of American Attorneys General

Mr. Mohammed Essabbar, Secretary General of the National Human Rights Council (CNDH) of Morocco received on 9 October 2017 at the Council’s headquarters in Rabat, Morocco, an American delegation composed by the Attorneys General of several states of the United States of America: Florida, Montana, Alaska, Alabama, North Dakota…

The Secretary General of the CNDH shed the light on the evolution of the human rights situation in Morocco since the creation of the Equity and Reconciliation Commission (IER) until the establishment of the CNDH. He highlighted the missions and the mandate of the CNDH, its role and contribution to the public debates and legislative reforms through its various publications (memorandums, thematic reports, studies, opinions, etc…). The situation of places of deprivation of liberty in Morocco and migration were also put forward by Mr. Essabbar.

The American delegation welcomed the Moroccan achievements in human rights and transitional justice through the experience of the IER. The Attorneys General also expressed their wish to cooperate with the CNDH on issues of common interest, particularly trafficking in persons and migration.

The American delegation is visiting Morocco officially from 8 to 13 October 2017. During this visit, they will hold meetings with other Moroccan officials and institutions.
