CNDH SG PARTICIPATES IN LITHUANIA IN OSCE’S CONFERENCE FOR NATIONAL HUMAN RIGHTS INSTITUTIONS

Secretary General of the (Moroccan) National Human Rights Council (CNDH), Mr. Mohammed Essabbar, participated in a Conference for National Human Rights Institutions in the OSCE Area, in Vilnius-Lithuania on July 13-14, 2011.

This conference was organized by OSCE Office for democratic Institutions and Human Rights and the Lithuanian OSCE Chairmanship in Office. It aimed “to bring together national human rights institutions from across the OSCE area to discuss their ongoing work and review good practices with a view of strengthening the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the institutions.”

It sought “to explore the existing practices of cooperation and interrelationship between NHRIs and their parliaments, the executive, the judiciary and civil society, respectively.”

Four sessions were scheduled during this conference: “NHRIs and civil society – interaction as a base for successful human rights protection and promotion”, “NHRIs and their relationship with parliaments – mandates, accountability and resourcing”, “Relationship of NHRIs with the executive branch – mutual responsibilities, expectations and results” and NHRIs and the administration of justice – access and interactions”. Four workshops on existing good practices were scheduled as well.

In addition to CNDH SG, this conference witnessed the participation of several NHRIs representatives (National Council for Human Rights-Egypt, Human Rights Implementation Centre-Bristol University, Irish Human Rights Commission, Ombudsman of Serbia, Human Rights Commission-France, Public Defender-Georgia, Asia Pacific Forum of NHRIs, Human Rights Ombudsman-Slovenia, Scottish Human Rights Commission, etc) and international experts.
