Rabat World Human Rights Pre-Forum to bring together hundreds of human rights defenders from over 50 countries

The National Human Rights Council (CNDH) of Morocco and the International Center for the Promotion of Human Rights (CIPDH-UNESCO) will organize, on 17 and 18 February 2023, at 9:00 a.m. at the Bouregreg Congress Center, in Rabat, Morocco, the Rabat World Human Rights Pre-Forum as a prelude to the Third World Forum for Human Rights (WFHR), which will be held in Buenos Aires, Argentina in March 2023.

Institutional actors, experts, officials, academics and representatives of national and international organizations working on human rights, particularly the United Nations, the African Union and others from Latin America, will gather for two days to discuss the important developments and emerging human rights challenges related to the climate change, transitional justice and memory and migration and human mobility.

More than 300 human rights defenders from 50 countries will share their experiences and best practices. It will culminate in developing effective and efficient recommendations, proposals and initiatives to pave the way for renewed international advocacy adopting the protection and promotion of human rights as a starting point, main focus and goal. Their conclusions will be presented at the World Third Forum on Human Rights to be held in Argentina.

"The Rabat International Human Rights Pre-Forum is not only an opportunity to shed light on human rights issues and address the main causes of transnational challenges and emerging global threats, but an event through which we seek to reach effective and efficient initiatives and come up with recommendations that will contribute to enriching the human rights debate at the Third World Human Rights Forum in Argentina," said Mrs. Amina Bouayach, CNDH Chairperson.

The program of the Pre-Forum features a plenary session during which emerging developments and challenges related to transitional justice and memory, climate change, and migration and human mobility will be addressed. Afterward, these issues will be detailed in three thematic sessions with the contribution of prominent human rights stakeholders from different parts of the world.

This Pre-forum will also be an occasion to pay tribute to six prominent national and international personalities known for their activism and contributions to protecting and promoting human rights.

Ms. Amina Bouayach, CNDH Chairperson, Mr. Nasser Bourita, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Expatriates, Mr. Santiago Cafiero, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Trade and Worship of Argentina, and Ms. Fernanda Gil Lazano, Executive Director of the CIPDH-UNESCO, Argentina will launch the proceedings of this event.
